Welcome back to my creative writing series! It has been such a long time since I have written anything creative. I am so excited to be writing creatively again! I have had so much creativity come out this year and I am so glad I am here writing again. For those curious about my previous story, take a look here: Tommy Toucan’s Library – Chapter One
My series has been about choosing an animal or creature, a place, and an object. I suppose I will keep the theme going. I knew without a doubt that I would want the animal/creature to be a dragon. Lately, I have been feeling the dragon energy coursing through my blood. Dragons are fiery, regal, creative, mystical beings. They are strong leaders and encompass all of the elements. In many ways, I feel my highest version of myself is a Dragon. There is so much more I could discuss on this topic, but it is time to dive into the story! Enjoy everyone, and please reach out to me with feedback!
Prologue
The harsh, stormy, rocky, and windswept coastal highlands of Ireland and Scotland have long been a refuge for western dragons throughout Earth’s history. These lands were home to primarily two different types of dragons. Four-legged, winged dragons typically inhabited caves and abandoned castles in the highlands and mountainous regions and were more scarce. Water dragons (worms, sea serpents) were found in the many lakes across these lands and were characterized as having no wings and often no legs.
The existence of these dragons was mysterious, but it was clear they existed among those who dared to brave the harsher and more remote areas of the British Isles. Dragons were symbols of power and wisdom. They were forces to be reckoned with, holding the light and the dark, and secrets of the universe. Their power and benevolence made them guardians of the natural balance of the Earth, keepers of peace.
But over time, these dragons began to disappear, and with it the peace, balance, and magic they brought to Earth.
The Emerald Dragons
The Emerald Dragons were a breed of regal dragons. These massive and winged creatures were the first dragons to ever settle in this area, and have been guardians of the region dating back to ancient history. Known for their enigmatic nature, these dragons blended into the hills and mountains, usually traveling under the cover of dense fog or darkness. They were wild forces of nature and therefore sought to inhabit and protect the wild beauty that existed there. Yet despite the mystery behind them, they were historically revered for their great power. Just their presence alone commanded respect. During the peak of their prominence, these dragons developed deep bonds with humans. They worked together, building a better world of love and natural order. This cooperation led to a golden era of peace. However, these bonds began to erode as greed and empire mounted amidst the prosperity.
Due to their size and strength, they were heavily targeted by humans during the dragon-slaying era. These dragons were fierce and powerful and displayed it when provoked, only adding to their infamity. Most attempts to kill the Emerald Dragons failed miserably. Nevertheless, this tragic period in human history left a bitter taste in dragon kind across the Earth, leading to a mass exodus. Some believed the dragons became extinct, diminishing into memory.
Dragons could not carry the burden of keeping the natural balance of Earth when the world was being turned upside down. Just as most dragons vanished from our sight, the Emerald Dragons were soon lost as well. That is until the Earth began to signal an awakening…
The Story Begins – The Hidden Fortress
Deep in the Irish highland hills, the rising consciousness of the planet had been making waves. Major earthly and intergalactic events have awoken humans from their slumber of ignorance and brainwashing. This has had an impact on far more than just humans. The elevated frequencies began to activate the ancient magical history of this land; so much so that it even impacted the weather. Where there are usually harsh winds, rain, and fog, this change brought in a series of powerful storms that continued to build along the coast, merging together into one as it worked its way inland. At its peak, it began to circle an ancient ruin of a castle that nestled in the highlands.
The castle was camouflaged into the rocky green hills. Time had weathered it and nature had taken hold, slowly overgrowing and blending it in with the landscape. A relic of the past, shrouded in ancient magic and mystery. It felt as though something dormant had been kept safe and secure, waiting for this very moment to be awoken. What was behind this fortress? What secrets and knowledge have been protected here during this deep sleep? It was well known that old castles in these lands carried deep wisdom and magical power; this fortress felt special.
A Dragon Awakens
As the storm continued to rage and build, it reached a swirling vortex above the castle. Dark clouds twisted and swarmed, wind whipping and tossing the land. The earth rumbled and shook, echoing the thunderous roar of lightning from above. At its peak, the sun became completely blocked out by the stormy clouds and rain. Amidst the darkness came a blinding electric blue flash of light instantaneously bridging the heavens and earth! The bolt of energy impacted the castle with such force, that it cracked the castle wall from top to bottom. A thunderous audible boom resounded throughout the region, as the broken and dislodged stone shook the earth.
The lightning strike charged the earth with a powerful energy and after it settled, the wind and storm clouds subsided. The earth slowly began to move and ripple as if something was alive underground. Beneath the earth, the storm had awoken an enormous living dragon. He began to rise and shake off the earth. It had blended in deeply with the landscape, its crown of horns brown and gray with stone from the castle’s foundation. Its body and tail emerald and gold, wrapped around the base of the castle’s hill.
Taking Flight
Waking from a deep slumber, this leviathan moved slowly, as if from a deep epic slumber. Despite his pace, he moved with purpose. He rose to his four sturdy legs, and his wings began to unfold and shake off the earth, exposing a beautiful expansive wingspan. This was no ordinary dragon. A king of kings, he stood tall and proud, displaying his power and might. It was as though he was the start of a turning of the tides, the advent of the return of the Emerald Dragon. After glancing around, his gaze rose to the sky and he leaped into the air, disappearing in an instant. It was unclear the significance of this event, but it was clear this marked a shift in the Earth. A guardian of the Emerald Isle had returned.
